Here are some tips to consider as you begin planning what to wear to your family photography session:
Consider Choosing a Color Pallet
This will help you and your family coordinate rather than match. When in doubt, pick a couple colors and then have all the rest of the clothing be neutral tones.
Plan Around One Person’s Outfit
Perhaps start by finding something that makes you feel confident, comfortable and beautiful. Use the colors of your outfit to determine the color pallet.
Be Inspired by the Location
Keep in mind the location we are planning to take the photos. Consider the differences between the desert, snow, garden, or city.
Be Careful with Patterns
The reason for this is to limit distractions and simplify your photos. Tip: think textures rather than patterns. For example, wearing clothes with denim and lace rather than stripes or plaid. My advice is to avoid large, bold plaid and contrasted stripes!
Feel Free to Dress Up
A dress and some slacks rather than shorts and flip flops will drastically enhance the feel of your photos. Consider having your nails painted, your hair and makeup done, or add in some accessories!
Pick Shoes You Will Feel Great In All Day
I want you to be glowing throughout the entire session, be sure to pick shoes that won’t hurt your feet or be uncomfortable by the end of the session.
Be Flexible
The most important thing is to simply show up as you are. Don’t stress over the details or feel you have to go on a pricey shopping spree. It’s good to plan what to wear. But I believe it’s even better to enjoy the process and celebrate the season your family is in!
